iPhone vs iPod Touch

Apart from the fact the iPhone is a phone, and allows connection to the internet while roaming, does it have any benefits over the iPod Touch in regard to apps?
I'm quite interested in a number of apps in the iTunes store, and none of them (so far as I'm aware) rely on having to connect the internet. Would an iPod Touch suit my needs for apps not needing a roaming internet connection?

I guess one other thing is that the iPhone has GPS, and there are a lot of very nice GPS-enabled apps - I use Runkeeper a lot on mine, and there are clever ones like Wikihood that do a location-based query of Wikipedia.0

I don't think I would need any GPS apps, or at least I can't currently see any need.
Another question: can apps be backed-up to PC, and swapped on and off the iPhone/iTouch, for when the machine gets full?I have no signature.0 -
Yeah, iTunes will do an app backup when you sync.
If you're getting one, i'd go for 16Gb rather than 8 - with some apps and a reasonable-sized music collection I found 8Gb fills up pretty quickly0 -
You can also download the apps again FOC - which i find quite useful when i cant be bothered to connect my iPhone to my Mac!:beer:In My 'Permanant' Pre-Masters Gap Year

I have a Touch from 14 months ago. Can use it's internet connection on the move by using Joikuspot installed in my (much more compact) 3g phone so have 'nearly' got the functionality of an iPhone on a cheap Virgin pay as you go SIM system that allows 25MB of surfing in any one day for 30p.
About the lack of GPS: Touch as a shockingly good self locating system built in that does not use GPS. It knew where I was within 20m based on the free Skyhook system http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skyhook_Wireless
There are some quite nice speech based apps coming out and I am not sure how well they work with the clip on microphones you can get for the Touch - no mic built in at least not on my 2nd gen model.0 -
I love my 16gb Touch and find it picks up any free WiFi available very easily and I also use BtOpenzone and The Cloud. I have downloaded quite a few movies (converted using Videora) which are great when you're travelling. The iPhone is much "fatter" than the Touch and for me is not worth the money.0
