Hi I am looking to buy a laptop at the moment and was wondering what peoples thoughts/experiences are about Windows7 as many of the laptops I have been looking at have this installed but many have Vista. I have a desktop at the moment on Windows XP so have no idea what Vista or Windows7 is like.
Thanks for your thoughts

Windows 7 is what Vista should have been, a much more polished operating system - for an overview, see http://www.microsoft.com/uk/windows/windows-7/default.aspx?WT.srch=1

Avoid Vista, Windows7 is nice shiny and efficient.
If you're happy with XP and don't self build your PCs yourself (ie could re-use the OS later) its probably not worth upgrading that to 7 near the end of the machine's life just for the sake of it.... -tho if you really want to you could resell a retail upgrade on ebay once you're finished with it as per the license.0 -
Choice between Vista and Windows 7 on a brand new laptop? I deliberately eschewed Vista; Windows 7 every time. No performance impediments - unlike the monster that was Vista.0

If you are looking at new laptops, then Windows 7 should be pretty much the norm now. Any with Vista are likely to be old stock, although they should come with a "free" upgrade to Windows 7 - this could be a voucher, or just entering the serial no on the manufacturers website, and may involve a postage charge of around £20.
Ask them the question, and use it to negotiate.0 -
xp used to be my fav, tried vista too resource intensive now win 7 is what vista should have been a nicely finished overall os. I bought a lappy with vista on it cos was nice and cheap no upgrade on it at the time as was an outlet laptop just got copy of win7 stuffed it on there no problem. if you do go down that road the only thing i would check before you buy is will take win7 as some lappys about will only run vista from manufacturers websites just check first!0
