I was late one morning last week for the first time in 4 years of being with my employer, I clocked on at 3mins past the hour, you are allowed 2 mins before your cut, and yes it is stated, so I suppose they are doing nothing wrong, but they cut me, it matters as we have bonuses etc, its not just a few mins pay I lose but almost 1/3 of my weekly pay. If you take into fact I was late as the line manager was late (he gives me a lift) and the fact its never happened before, should common sense not prevale?

It does seem a bit harsh.0

They can't deduct it from your basic salary - and certainly not that amount. They could only deduct the realistic cost to the business. In this case that's probably next to nothing.
However, if they are taking it from bonus and commissions, then that's fine, as long as they are consistant and aren't treating people differently based on religion, skin colour etc. IIRC, they can do whatever they want with your bonuses and commissions.
A third of a weekly pay packet sounds a little harsh, but I doubt they get many problems with lateness?0 -
that is too harsh.. i agree with Proc.. only realistic cost is deducted..0

They did in the past hence why all basic pay was reduced and they bought various bonuses in so they could shaft you. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I know many companies operate a "up to 2 minutes late, after that your pay is docked for 15 minutes", but for that to then impact on your bonuses seems a bit Draconian. Of course, how it affects the business will be important. If you are a shelf stacker then the implications of 2 minutes are less onerous than if you were an airline pilot and you had to get the plane out on the booked runway slot or the plane would be delayed 3 hours.
I hope, for the sake of 2 minutes once in 4 years, that you get it resolved to your satisfaction.0 -

Yes thats right you lose 15mins, but as I say we get time keeping bonuses etc which shafts that. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Are you saying your time keeping bonus makes up a third of your salary?0
