Repair, replacement or refund at Tesco.

Hi folks,

I wonder if anyone can advise me on this.....

I bought a Samsung Blu-Ray player last June from one of the big Tesco
stores, and for the last while it's losing sound sync and has started
skipping and freezing at random points. i.e. it's knackered already :(

I've still got the receipt and all the original packaging etc, so I'm trotting
off down to Tesco to hand it back.

I always thought that as long as the goods were faulty within 12 months
and I still had my receipt and packaging then I could choose whether to
get refund or replacement or store credit.

However I heard recently that the option to choose only last six months,
then after that it's down to the store which option they'll give me. So I
guess my question would be...is that true ?

I've seen a lot of people with the same model having the same problems
so I don't want a replacement, and quite frankly Tesco charge far more
than others like Amazon do these days for Blu-Ray players, so ideally I'd
want a refund and buy elsewhere.

Can they refuse the refund ??

Any advice appreciated.

Al.

You never (really) have the option to choose - except before it's 'accepted' (which most retailers give as the first 14/28/30/60 days). The first six months is when the retailer must prove the item is not faulty...after that, you have to prove it is inherently faulty.

Luckily the manufacturer give you a 1 year guarantee, so you don't have to go about that. I'm not sure what Tesco do, but I don't think they have a good repair service going, so will likely replace. But it is their choice.
