Comet wouldn't replace faulty item 36 days after purchase

Hi, Comet Company Representative.
Sorry, I haven't been glued to this forum. I have a life elsewhere, and have already expended the time and effort I thought would be necessary to resolve this issue, with no luck. My son enjoyed his Christmas present briefly, and would like to use it some more. A replacement is all I originally wanted. I don't mind if it's only the controller -- that's the only part with a problem. The software is just fine.
My experience with Comet is what has left me amazed, and persuaded me that this info should be more widely available. I'd hate to think of more folks than necessary being fobbed off by 'Dave', the store manager who doesn't know about the Sale of Goods Act.
I'm not after anything free, or anything I'm not legally entitled to. I just want the product I purchased.
Having had my time wasted by 'Dave', it might be courteous of Comet to inform me (and other readers here) when he has been re-trained on the finer points of the SOGA. Surely this is a pre-requisite for such an employee?
And threatening to call the police as I was not prepared to be fobbed off absolutely takes the biscuit. A written apology will do on that score. From Dave himself, not the PR department.
I have the 'Guitar Hero' waiting for collection. If you'd like to arrange the carrier to collect it, and return the repaired product or a replacement, that and the due apologies would resolve this.0 -
I'm glad it's not just me with Comet. I purchased a computer and it wouldn't work after I'd set it up!Manager told me that as I hadn't purchased their warranty it was nothing to do with them. Phoned the company who made the computer who told me it was a fault with keyboards supplied to Comet. Was given a reference and told to take it back to Comet (had great pleasure in handing it over to the manager
).An ex-employee told me staff are under strict instructions not to accept faulty goods back, sounds like thats the deal across the whole company

Montrose5, glad it's not just me too! I've had the occasional thing break in the past, and never had any problem returning them. Mind you, none of them came from Comet.
Just checking through receipts. From Comet in 2009 I bought a Sony DAB radio £48, a Sony clock radio £69 and a Magimix kettle £67, plus the errant Guitar Hero, £79 (prices apporox). Total £263. Not the biggest spender, but I was pretty loyal (in fact just the kind of regular, non-price-sensitive customer we welcome with open arms in the business I run). Next is a new fridge/freezer. I don't do cheap, so it's likely to be at least £500. Comet would have been the first port of call, but no way now!
Thinking about using John Lewis instead as they seem to sell on the strength of their customer service. Anyone got any opinions on where to buy electricals without having the proverbial taken?0 -

Costco.
By far the best returns policy I've ever encountered. No quibble.
And they'll knock the socks off any deal (value for money wise) that Comet could ever offer."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Found that Mike Rooney is their commercial director. Apparently he's been in the forces, so assume he has respect for the law of our land. I'm guessing that his e-mail address is mike.rooney@comet.co.uk -- which might be right, or then again, maybe not.0

If you want to know who the directors are, go to here and cross their palm with silver (well, £1 actually!):

The Current Appointments report is the one you want. It includes all the directors' home addresses. Sending them a letter to open over their cornflakes invariably gets their attention!Je suis Charlie.0 -

Don't forget John Lewis do price match. Check the price in Comet and go to JL, they tend to have better guarantees as well0 -

And is exactly why the Companies Act 2006 changed the law about this....0 -

I love JL but you might want to take a look at Which? and comments on the JL Freezer (not a fidge-freezer)0 -
Buy it from me
(as long as you take it home from store)Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0
