Today after visting Bensons and Dreams, we narrowed it down to a Sealy and a Inner Wisdom (Keats Divan). After reading some reviews have definately decided the Sealy a no-go, but wondered if anyone had any opinions on the Inner Wisdom. We currently have a Hypnos with is 5 years old but needs replacing desperately. Any opinions would be greatly received.

If it's a mattress you're after, your back won't thank you for rushing in to it.

When we were looking, one of the big stores (Bensons I think) had a gizmo that you lay on that measured your weight and pressure points and could help identify how firm your mattress needs to be. Clearly designed to sell you a mattress from them! However, it is good to know what mattress you need when you look in the other shops. It worked for me. My mattress is perfect, and no more stiff backs in the morning. Bliss.

As a tip, don't go mattress shopping when you're tired - they all seem comfy.

I think you mean the Sleep to Live machine. This is one of the worst gimmicks in the bed industry. I have never heard of it coming out with the same results for two people which would allow you to buy another mattress rather than sleep to live with very inflated prices.

You will probably also find that if you buy from a big store, then if you are buying a decent mattress, then you will have to wait weeks for delivery.

For the best quality mattress for the best price, buy on line from a seller who gives a satisfaction guarantee (a proper one that allows you to actually unpack and sleep on the bed). This way it is in the sellers interest to make sure you make the right choice the first time. Otherwise it would cost them money replacing it.
  • We bought a Sealy mattress and base about 6 years ago. A year or so ago I noticed some wire/spring sticking out of the side of the mattress , looked at original purchase receipt/guarantee and realised that it came with a 10 year warranty! Went back to the retailer, paid a delivery charge of £40 and voila - brand new mattress delivered! Very impressed with their after-sales service!

You were very lucky then, because that's not how Sealys extended warranty works now. It is on a sliding scale, so for example if it was a 5 year warranty, and you had owned the bed for 4 years then you would have to pay 80% of the cost at the current market value, without any discounts. This is unless the extended warranty was actually an insurance policy?

You will probably need to take another insurance policy out, because this one will be more likely to last 12 months.
