I run AVG 9.0 and have done for the last 18 months, touch wood never had probs, BUT I am very cautious with using the net and sites I go on, and have to tell the kids what they can and can't go on too.
All ok except my pc kept shutting down (no data lost). Took it into my pc repair shop who came recommended from a friend and they looked all over the pc and said it was fine but put it down to the fan element being clogged up with dust, so gave it a good clean inside and applied thermal paste ??
Set up pc today and it has not been used for 9 days. AVG started running the whole system scan and it came up with an alert that there were 3 trojan horse 16 ?? Anyway, it asked what I should do woth it, so I clicked move to vault.
At end of scan it came up that all 3 removed and healed ..... so sorry to sound dizzy but do you think all is ok ? And how on earth would I have got them bearing in mind it seemed ok before I took it to the pc repair shop.
Thanks

At a guess, the latest update of AVG incorporated new risks that have actually been in the wild for some time and that is why it picked them up now. Most trojans sit very quietly. As for where they came from who knows. They can sit as entirely innocent items and be hidden in a huge variety of places. My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).
For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com0 -
A trojan is usually something that has entered your PC via a port that is open.
Why? Because it can and because it is likely to be used to do damage to your system at a later date.
What does it do? Well it will do what it's programmer wants it to do.
In other words, although the principal purpose is the same, the way it does it is very different. You AVG has seen these trojans and you have quite rightly put them in the vault where they are inaccessable from its developer.
There are other associated concerns. Was it carrying and execute file? Did it access by a common port like Email or was it put through an unusual port.
Reality is that AVG probably got them before the damage was done but as a matter of safety I would have Trend Micros online system check your system. It has to be said that many Anti Virus softwares report trojans incorrectly, deeming that anything entering or leaving any unusual port may be a trojan or other.
Go here and follow the instructions on screen:
Google Online Virus Scan and look for the link "Trend Micro"
Sorry, I'm a new user and cant use links
Download the version 7. It's free. If your computer is a 32bit comp then obviously thats the version you need. If in doubt, right click on Computer or My Computer and select properties and it should tell you there how many bits your OS is running with.Computers are like me, I get up in the morning and work...until I stop.0 -
