Do they completley stop your tax credits etc whilst they add on another baby?

Evening all!

We pay our nursery fee's weekly £190 and DD1 will stay at nursery whilst missus is home with baby, Im just wondering if they completley stop our claim and do it from scratch when we add on bubs or do they add bubs on whilst DD1's CTC,WTC is still being paid?

Just need to know whether we need to save up a few weeks nursery fee's somehow before bubs arrives!!

  • they will just amend your current claim so you wont go without payments.

Cheers :) Thats one less thing for the missus to stress about then!
  • the change in circumstances usually gets dealt with in about 2 weeks from when you ring, so your payments should go up in your next payment. If you have just had a payment you may get an interim payment in between

you need to fill in the form for child benefit and send it with the birth certificate. I think this needs to be done before they tax credits will pay for the new baby.
there will have been a form in the bounty packs they give out in the hospital if your wife was handed one :)

  • You dont need to wait for child benefit before tax credits will pay. They will verify the child is genuine through child benefit but they do give some time for the claim to be processed first.

After a little while the will try to verify the child against the child benefit database and if they cannot get a match they will contact you for the birth certificate themselves. Failure to respond would mean your CTC would be cancelled for the child until you appeal the decision.
  • Also, child benefit usually does not take long to update either, I sent off the babys birth certificate and got it back within a week.

may be worth getting an extra copy of the new baby's birth certificate when you register the birth, then you have a spare one to send off for the CB.

I wish you and yours all the best for your new arrival
