Euro million lottery prize differences

Hi,

Think i might be missing something here and would be grateful to anyone who can shed some light on it:

We matched 2 numbers and 2 star numbers on the 15/01/2010 draw.

The prize is 15.20 pounds or 24 euros. (from this link: http://www.euro-millions.com/results/15-01-2010.asp)

Yet if you google 24 euros to pounds it comes out at 21.05 pounds which much greater than our 15.20 pounds.

What is the reason for the difference in prizes?

Thanks

Been looking into it, but so far not a clue. I thought exchange commission, but its a bit high if it was. So i trying to check the figures to see if the site has reported the wrong price amounts

I wondered if they used the exchange rate of 15/01 and it was maybe lower than the exchange rate today but the pound would have to have increased in value considerably to make that much difference!

    Walks away scratching head.........

According to the lottery website HERE - scroll down to exchange rate - it is the rate notified by RBS ... from time to time.

And we all know how good RBS are with figures....

So, if I have my sums right, the Euromillions organisers? Owners? base their £ prizes on an exchange rate of about 63p-65p per euro?

The exchange rate hasn't been below £1.00 for over a year according to this:

    http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/fds/hi/business/market_data/currency/11/13/twelve_month.stm

So where is all that extra money going? I onder how much the winners of the £26million were swindled out of last week?!!!

It's scary, I don't think I'll play the Euromillions again.

THIS gives the prize breakdown in a bit more depth - £s €s and $s - probably work out the exchange rate from them - and if it is consistent to each prize level.

EDIT - sorry, just realised I have provided the same link as in your first post! :o

  • The only figure which is right is the jackpot. All the others are dodgy exchange rates.

I'll bet it is a poorly built and maintained site.

The £ ones match up to the UK site.

No idea what the euro ones are, i cant find them elsewhere.

According to wikipedia "Prizes, aside from the jackpot, are sized according to participation per country." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EuroMillions

Whilst wiki isn't the most reliable source of info that would seem to make sense, particularly when you factor in that us Brits don't pay the same for the tickets either, as we are buying in sterling.
