have you been into BIOS , normally F2 as soon as the PC starts booting, and changed the priority so it boots from CD first ?? and is it an XP/Vista CD ??

disconnect the other optical drive and make sure you only have one hard drive and one optical drive attached.

Does the CDROM show in the BIOS?
Does the hard drive show in the BIOS?
When you insert the XP disc can you hear the CD spinning up inside the drive?

What exactly happens on screen after checking all this?

when i press it doesnt do anything

yes can hear the cd spinning up and lights flash
  • Make sure the keyboard is connected to a connector that is attached directly on the motherboard not one that is on the front panel of the computer or attached to a hub, also try tapping any key a least once a second as soon as you push the power button until it boots to disc.

That's your problem, see if the BIOS has a setting for something along the lines of 'legacy usb' or scrounge a keyboard with a ps2 connector.
    Move along, nothing to see.
