Repair or Replacement

Could someone clarify something for me?

I am in dispute with Amazon. I bought a monitor at a very good price, it has developed a fault. They will not replace it as they have no stock and are offering a refund. Normally this would be fine but in this case I won't be able to replace the item at a similar specification, as it was such a bargain in the first place!

Am I allowed to demand a repair/replacement (I'd be happy with a similar spec but different model). Or are the within their rights to offer a refund only?

Thanks in advance

The retailer is within their rights to decide which remedy is appropriate dependant on what is less costly for them.
