It scares me to think that you don't realise that alcohol is a depressant rather than an anti-depressant.
I agree you need to deal with your problems. And empathy is a dangerous thing sometimes ...
When did the definition of 'teetotal' become 'not drinking beer/lager'? (Gosh I miss the 'confused' smiley!) How long have you been working with ex-offenders? Don't feel you have to answer that, but it still confuses me when I hear people say "I'm clean, I'm only taking x ml of Methadone now and I'm not smoking crack all the time, just pot".
Their boundaries are often blurred, which is why YOURS must be really clear and set in concrete!
BTW, I know not all ex-offenders have problems with drugs and alcohol, but enough of them do to make a very very broad generalisation possible!
Oh, and I'd remove those CVS details. A quick google and I could make an educated guess as to who you hoped to be working for.
Hi, Yes I am well aware alcohol is a depressant, done enough courses to know that one - we deal with agencies assisting those with addictions. It's just re-experiencing something I haven't done for years and gets me out to enjoyable surroundings :T And I have been tee-total for a few years. Before that a social drinker who hs never liked beer/lager hence the statement. Sorry I keep not mking things ultra-clear, I'm a bit scatty at the minute who is hoping to cover most bases
We (as employment advisors) do not work with drug mis-users as they are not work ready. They're passed to the mentors to help address issues first
One other thing, peoples perception of offenders are criminal pasts but if someone has 3pts on their driving licence they can then access the services the company offers.....0 -

Also some of us skim quickly and don't necessarily notice usernames as we go.liverpoolste wrote: »It's just re-experiencing something I haven't done for years and gets me out to enjoyable surroundings :T And I have been tee-total for a few years. Sorry if I seemed picky. It's just this thing I have about boundaries........
Fair enough, just from what you'd said it seemed mentors and advisers were equally fuzzy on the whole boundaries thing. And - this may sound harsh - someone who's had serious drug issues is likely to have an ongoing problematic relationship with drugs AND alcohol. At least IME.
Oh yes, I know the term 'offender' covers a very broad range, and more of us are criminalised through our driving habits than anything else!
Hey, you don't seem picky - very clued up indeed  This is exactly the kind of advice and constructive criticism I needed!!!!
With regards to the drugs issues - some aren't serious, some clients/mentees just treat it as a way of life, like cannabis (yuck!) where it doesn't control them BUT it would impinge on their job security/quality if it involved working machinery.... E.g Jacobs are a Jewish Company with strict morals/ethics and work rules and that involves random drug tests etc. Other jobs we set the lads up with is cleaning the huge hotels in Manchester so they have to be competent.
Oh yes, that term offender - a can of worms that's all I can say! :rotfl:
My new team leader (hopefully from Feb 1st) called today to ask has the Chairman been in touch, I said "Nothing, nada". He was going to his today as they've been friends for years, so will see where my position currently stands.
Just waiting patiently to put my point across and once again thank you to EVERYONE who's posted on here as I have alot more clarity now in what to say in what (little?) defence I have, rather than the crumbled wreck I was who was just gobsmacked at the reaction to it all.
Will update when I know anything further....0 -
Alcohol is great short term makes you feel great. Longterm its obv no solution. Speaking from experience here
Speak to your chairman give him a ring in work hours - tell him you want to see him, surely he can afford you half hour since you've worked for nothing for x amt of months?
Use the jobcentre website it's got thousands of jobs on it.

The worst thing you did was talk and respond to people personally whilst at work.
You may scratch your head at my comment, but to mix work and your personal life just makes thng complicated and exposes you to issues that would not be apparant otherwise.

You're posts make me think you're manic OP - as if your mouth/fingers just run away with you! Sorry if that sound harsh.
It can be a shame to dampen sheer enthusiasm but perhaps you need to rein youself in a little at work.Opinion, advice and information are different things. Don't be surprised if you receive all 3 in response.0 -

Lol - I'm certainly not manic!:rotfl: I am a little trusting I guess in the fact that I don't believe people have alterior motives if they see you doing well etc. Not a naive person at all, just guess I got the trusting judgement wrong - as it's only been put to the test for the first time in this situation and unfortunately for me it was me as the focal point!
Saying that, I had and still believe I had vaild reason to inform the team leader as it could've encroached onto my work environment. I just should've exhibited better judgement in how discreet I was about it.....0 -
QUOTE My job was my life - I enjoyed it that much that I gave near 4 months voluntary (suffered the humiliation of signing every fortnight whilst my colleagues picked up healthy wages), would've volunteered forever if need be as I believe in the organisations vision. Gave my all when others didn't give as much as they became complacent. Finished with my partner (and split my family as we have a 3 y.o daughter together) - to protect my work interests. QUOTE
A few points I dont understand:
Your job is your life - OK you like your job - fine but why end a relationship over it (unless of course there were other reasons)
Anyone employed 12 months or under (I take it this might include voluntary as well) has no legal rights... can be gotten rid of without any reason...fact ..
I'd just do courses etc gain more experience and move on. Good Luck:rotfl:RiverStar:A0 -

I guess it finally was the straw that broke the camels back!! My ex-partner is 23 and knew I'd finally refound that spring in my step. I in fact on reflection, think she was jealous and probably thought no man can be THAT happy unless he's having an affair!! The first and obvious person was the 23 y.o in my team (of 4 of us!).
We used to have a trust issue and I guess it's reared its ugly head again. I'd rather not put my 3 y.o through it and be partners in parenting rather than loveless partners for the 'childs sake'......
My job really really was (and hopefully still is) my everyday life and as a mentor be on call 24 hours!
I'm going to go into my work place tomorrow at 7am before anyone else gets there so I can discuss things with the boss. He gets there at 5am - 6ish each morning:eek:
Bye for now0
