rehire after voluntary redundancy

hello, I recently took voluntary redundancy and received a large payout (first £30k of which was tax-free). My former company now wants to rehire me on a short-term contract (6 weeks - paid by the hour). I was just wondering if I accept their offer will IR demand I pay tax on my tax-free lump sum? I left the company three months ago.

I fear they will have a very close look!

I'm sure you didn't, but it would be very easy to concoct situations like this just for tax purposes.

It might help to become self employed and bill your time as a consultant. However, this can easily be regarded as employment so also needs care. There are many articles on this subject. It would help if you could do some chargeable work for another firm as well.

Get some good professional advice on this as the tax would probably be more than you would earn in six weeks?
