Sole trader & online payments/IMA

I am hoping to start up a web-based business in the near future. I hope to do this under a 'sole trader' status.
However, it is essential that I can get an online payments processing account (internet merchants account). Is it possible for me to get such an account as a sole trader or do I have to be a registered business?
