I know Dell often get a hard time for customer service etc. and it seems no one ever has anything good to say about them apart from mentioning the good deals they offer so I thought I'd give a brief outline of my dealings with them over thew last two months.
1. Around Easter time I ordered an Inspiron 1300 Laptop. 40GB/256RAM/1.5 Ghz Celeron/15.4" Widescreen/inbuilt wireless with 6 cell battery for about £330 after discounts which I thought was a very good deal. However a slight software clash caused by some of the pre-installed junk caused me a slight problem but after speaking to customer services they offer me £25 cashback as a goodwill gesture which I thought was very reasonable so took it and kept the laptop.
2. 8 days later and I discover there is a problem when try to use the laptop when charging the battery. A call to Dell and they send me a replacement battery which solves nothing but they collect the laptop for repair and let me keep the spare battery for wasting my time.
3. After two weeks they haven't fixed my laptop so offer to send me a replacement which arrives within a couple of days. Not impressed with the 2 week wait but at least I've got it sorted...
4. ...or have I? After 5 days some very strange noises start coming from the new laptop that doesn't sound healthy at all. I also have a very occasional problem with the charger connection so I call Dell who say they'll get back to me.
5 The next day they say they'll send a guy to fix it but by now I've had enough and I told the guy in a very calm and polite way that I felt the whole situation was getting silly. He fully agrees and asks if an upgrade would be a better option and of course I jump at the chance as I still need a laptop.
6. Four days later a new laptop arrives. They sent me a brand new Inspiron 6400 with Intel T2400 Dual processor, 60gb hard drive, 512mb RAM, 36 month McAffee internet security and a 3 year warranty!
Now I know I've been through a fair bit of hassle with sending things back and being without a laptop for 2 weeks but they have been very polite throughout and have sent me a laptop that sells at over twice the amount I originally paid so I'm very happy indeed.
Thank you Dell. I would buy again!
