BG electricity refund success
I found out that my grandmother was £1,535 in credit on her BG electricity account. As she has it on direct debit she hadn't checked it for ages. They were charging her £52 a month despite her usage being much much lower.
I phoned up and requested a refund and that the DD be lowered. They were very helpful, called me back because I was on a mobile and eventually agreed to lower the DD to £20 p/m and send a cheque out refunding £1000.
They were very unsure about refunding it though. They said it was a lot of money (!) and that they would have to do checks on the account first and talk to various managers which they di and phoned me back later. I did rather think that if they thought it was so much money maybe they should have alerted my 94 yr old grandmother that she was giving them a free loan of over £1000. It also wasn't very helpful that they insisted on sending it out as a cheque rather than refunding directly to account as it means my Gran will need someone to take her to cash it.
Overall though, I am glad they agreed to refund and that they have lowered the DD so things like this are less liekly to happen again.
