Benefit and Tax Question

Hi,
Please can someone help with a tax/benefit question?

I have just signed off contribution based JSA and received my P45 in the post today. I am a little confused as I had a P45 dated 8/5/09 from my previous employer which stated the amount of tax I had paid so far in 09. All looked correct.
However the P45 received today shows a far lesser amount of tax paid to date. How can this be?

Could it have something to do with section 8 on my P45 which shows the amount of benefits I have received over the last 6 months? Do they take away your benefits from your tax or something? I do not understand what they mean by taxable benefit.

This amount is important to me as I’m getting a rebate (long story) and now the amount has been reduced.
