Morrisons also sell ice. One bag for £1.49. Ice cube bags are fab as well but a bit more fiddly.
  • Sainsbury and Tescos both sell Ice Cubes at 99p for a 2kg bag. It works out a lot cheaper than buying an ice cube maker.

Keep all your old plastic coke milk bottles etc when finished and fill them with water put them in the freezer, then find a very large container something like a kids toy box there are some really large one's around with rope handles, fill it with water and cut the plastic bottles to remove the ice, put your drinks in the container and away you go!!!

we have used this method loads in the past and it won't cost you anything!! except time!

I'd go with mariejaders idea ..thats exactly what we've always done and it works really well.
If you havent enough room in your own freezer, I'm sure other people would help by clearing a shelf or two and stocking up with water..after all it wouldnt cost them anything.
(I also have brought the large bottles of still mineral water from tesco at 17p each..it works out alot cheaper than buying ice.)
Don't forget to take a little out though before freezing due to the expansion.

Hope you have a great time!!!

Lidl had one in the other day - can't remember how much it was though. You might be lucky and find they've got some left.

Oops, sorry - was in there this morning and checked it; turns out it's an ice crusher, not maker. If anyone does want one of those, it was £6.99.

You could always change the principle of "Bring a bottle" and ask them to bring some frozen water as suggested instead of the alcohol variety, that way you would get 60-70 bottles. Also if your guests arrive at different times it will keep things constantly cool! And if all else fails and it is really hot like it has been recently you can drink the water when it defrosts to keep everybody hydrated, especially if they are drinking alcohol.

Sorry to resurect this thread but I'm after an ice cube maker and they seem to go for around £100+ on ebay which is slightly more than I can part with. Anyone seen any cheapies at all elsewhere?
