Gatwick travelodge?

We are going to a wedding at the beginning of August and the nearest cheapest accomodation is Gatwick travelodge (had to book 2 rooms cos 2 adults, 4 kids (aged 9yrs to 2yrs) and a newborn! )
We've never stopped in a travelodge before - normally go self catering - so have no idea what to expect
We are travelling down the day before the wedding (from Lancashire) and stopping overnight at Gatwick travelodge. We would appreciate any recommendations of cheap things to do/places to go/where to eat that are child friendly?
thank you!
Mummy dumpling (with new baby due any day now!)

Travelodges are very consistent in their accommodation - indeed, the rooms all look identical inside in my experience.
The Gatwick one was a bit tatty when we stayed there a few years back, but I wouldn't let that put you off.
We stayed in the Whitstable Travelodge last week with a 7 month old, and got a cot supplied free of charge which was very nice indeed. We had no complaints, to be honest. (Oh, and we paid £10 a night
)
You get kettle tea and coffee in the rooms; you can pay £5 ish for a fairly boggy breakfast but I wouldn't bother.0 -
I stayed at the Gatwick Travelodge on the night of June 6th this year. I am always taking advantage of their supersaver offers, so have stayed in quite a few now, going by the standards of the others, I felt this one was slightly better. It is literally right by one of the runways and my heart sank when we arrived, because I really needed a good nights sleep, but once inside, we didn't hear any aircraft noise at all.
There is a bar / cafe attached to it with very reasonably priced food, the kids portions are quite big, which makes a change. Watch the prices though, we found the menu price list in the rooms anything between 20p - 50p different (cheaper) than in the restaurant, when they attempted to charge us more and I pointed out the difference, they were quick to allow it at the lower price.
They had an all you can eat breakfast for £6.95 and kids eat free, because I was on my own with 2 children, I found this excellent value for money, both children ate masses, out of the wide selection they had.
The only thing we felt let them down, was the £5 car park charge, the website has now been updated, but there was no mention of this when we booked. DO NOT lose your ticket, it is a £200 fine if you do.
I am sorry, I can't offer advice on where to go as we stayed before going on holiday, but inside the lodge there were loads of local information leaflets.
Have a good time and good luck with the baby :j"Dogs come when they are called. Cats take a message and get back to you" :j :j0 -

Hi
Enjoy you trip and good luck for the new arrival.0 -
Re the parking, when we stayed there you could park right outside for free anyway, so I am not sure why you need to pay £5. Or is my memory muddled?0

On reading about this hotel on tripadvisor I decided to stay at Dorking,
One thing that put me off is there are NO toiletries provided at gatwick and then there is the car park charge0 -
Travelodge are a good basic low cost option, but I would avoid the airport ones as you are likely to have a lot of noise from other guests leaving/arriving for flights at odd times during the night and early morning. Also as someone else has mentioned you will incur parking charges on the airport ones.0

There are no toiletries in any Travelodges these days, apart from towels and one tiny bar of soap.photome wrote:On reading about this hotel on tripadvisor I decided to stay at Dorking,

This is done to keep costs down. We've stayed in about a dozen in the last year, but also places like Circus Circus in Las Vegas, who do VERY nice toiletries that somehow found their way into our bags, handy for the travelodge stays!0 -
Don't forget the earplugs if you want a nights sleep anywhere near an airport, and Travelodges tend to be near busy roads too, in my experience. I know the planes don't land/take-off all through the night but they start real early. Personally I never venture from home without these, since I spent a sleepless night in a hotel in the chilean wilderness right next to the water tank for the whole building, you never know.M.E..... MORE than you know0
