The only car accident my dad ever caused was when he pulled out in front of a motor cyclist luckily no injuries just a damage front wheel on the motorbike. They are very easy to miss which why you must very carefully when you see them coming. As long as there is no serious injuries then the police properly won't do anything, especially considering you OH stopped and made sure lad was Ok, Phoned the police and ambulance.0

May not be relevant to this particular case, but motorcyclists often don't help themselves. Round here you often see motorcyclists doing at least double the speed limit. Some of them drive much too fast in built up areas.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

Of course, car drivers never do that.:huh:0 -
Thanks Quentin and Anihilator. My wife is wondering whether it is possible to keep the insurance companies out of this and to try and settle something with him direct, as presumably the moment the insurance companies register the incident, it will have an impact on future premiums for both of them?
The lad said he was ok,did he seek medical advice afterwards?
A few years ago I was in the outside lane of a dual carraigeway with 2 cars in front of me in my company transit.A dog ran out in front of the 1st car,a new Merc convertable.
She braked as did the second car,I swung the wheel & clipped the nearside rear of the 2nd car.We exchanged insurers &,as we both were in company vehicles, were'nt really bothered.
The first car was'nt even touched.PSNI came, took statement's,breathalised us all & wanted to know if we saw where the dog came from so they could prosecute the owner.
The Merc owner told the cops her car was'nt touched.
8 month's later,I got a phone call from my company's insurers, saying the Merc's owner was now claiming damage to her car,I refered them to the PSNI officer as the owner claimed no damage & I never heard a thing back.
My point is tell your insurers everything, even if you think it's nothing important.0 -
Agreed, bikers do come from nowhere at high speeds.
The best defence would have been that the road was clear to the right when she committed to pulling out.
Only when she was half way out did the biker appear approaching at speed.
Water under the bridge now.0 -

A biker doesn't appear from " nowhere ", it was the drivers responsibility to be certain that it was clear before pulling out.0 -

The OP states "Young Motorist" which could mean they were on a moped.0 -

Did you read the rest of my post??
If the road to your right is clear, i.e there is nothing coming, zilch, nada, then there is nothing wrong with pulling out.
As soon as you commit and start pulling out, a vehicle appears coming at you at speed, this is what I mean, from nowhere.
Of course it isn't really "from nowhere"! but without x-ray vision through buildings, bushes etc.. then the best you can do it pull out if there is nothing visible to your right.0 -
I think she should be banned for 6 months then made to retake her test.Nature wants the human race to survive. However, it does not depend on us because we are not its only invention.0
