liver , bacon and veg - can i freeze and reheat ?

hi there my OH bought a huge bag of liver last night and i am going to make a stew type meal out of it.
the problem is , it is only me and him who eat it , so i need to know , can i freeze it and reheat it later on ?
is it ok to microwave it as i can take it to work for lunch ?
i am going to do it in the slow cooker which is a 6.5 but it may be too much for that and i will do an extra one for the oven for my OH to take home. how long will he need to cook it for and at what sort of temperature ?

sorry for all the questions i just don't want it to go to waste as the whole bag only cost £1.99 from a meat market in swansea.
it has been bought home to southampton and therefore is defrosted , or i would've used it in smaller quantities :D thanks guys you're collectively the best !!!

  • Hi Mummyof5. As the liver has defrosted, you can cook the liver as you suggested ( liver, bacon and vegetables in gravy ) and then freeze it into portions for when you want to eat it. I have done this for years and have had no problems, just a bit more gravy may be needed when you reheat it. Hope this is of some help.

  • excellent thankyou.
do you make up normal gravy from granules or is there a better/healthier way of doing it ?
  • Hi As you are going to cook the liver " lets call it braised liver" in a slow cooker, i would first of all coat the liver in a bit of plain flour, slice up some onions place those first of all in the slow cooker, the lay the liver on top of the onions, gently saute the bacon pieces, so that the bacon is just changing colour, if you know what i mean. then put in the slow cooker with the veg, add a couple of beef oxo's add the water to cover the concoction and slow cook for a couple of hours or until you think that its done. to thicken up a bit more after its cooked add abit of corn flour.
When i have frozen the liver and want to use it. Defrost as normal. If the sauce or gravy seems a bit runny. i just add either gravy granuals or a bit of corn flour. If you got anymore questions, get back to me. Good luck. not that you should need it. lol

Totally agree with demented about how to cook your liver but had to reply mummyof5. I live in Southampton too and came from Swansea originally! Great cities both of them and I think similar in many ways. Good luck with your meal(s).
