    whats an mm run?

Just had a phone call from a very upset mum, one of my friends died this morning, she was only 32, (was very ill most of her life in and out of intensive care but she always pulled through,) still a shock though

    It's a huge shock!
    was she in pain?

Will you be going to the funeral?

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

are there any other things such as mashed carrots/butternut squash or sweet potatoes you can use instead? Why can't you use regular potatoes?
    ...Linda xx

It is all to do with the GI or glycaemic index of the foods. The GI rating is a measure of how fast it turns to sugar in your body. High GI = fast to sugar = bad for OH. As he is on tablets we are unable to adjust the dosage to suit the meal. Therefore we need to keep the GI as low as possible.

Potatoes, for example, are best if boiled new potatoes in their skins and worst if mashed. Roast and Jackets are too mushy inside so higher GI than boiled. Sweet potatoes are better than ordinary ones.

We use wholemeal pasta instead of white, rice is basmati only, and potatoes are new. People do GI diets to lose weight, so as a non-diabetic I find it a healthy lifestyle, but it isn't easy to follow always.

I can tell you the sugars per 100g of every major supermarket's egg custard tarts. My OH has been told 15g of sugar per 100g of product is "a lot" and so he should keep below that level. Sainsburys are best at 11.xg, Morrisons & Asda are a bit higher (around 13 IIRC), Tesco worst at 14.xg. The difference may not sound a lot but Tesco tarts are nearly 1/3 higher in sugar that Sainsburys

This does nothing for my grocery bills as it means I visit different shops for different versions of foods, to keep the sugars down. Whilst there, of course, random carp leaps from the shelves begging me to take it home :o

PS - only cheesecake I've ever found below 15g of sugar is Waitrose own brand pack of 3 (I think) mini ones for around £1.50. Tasty top tip to low sugar cheesecake hunters out there. You would not believe how long it took me to find a cheesecake he could eat - he adores cheesecake so missed it so much.

Could you make your own cheesecake? I don't think it's very hard, and you can control what goes in it.

Thanks Becky, I'll see how hard it is to peel. The salmon I'm having is marinaded in lime and coriander so I don't think garlic will go well with it, but I'll bear it in mind for next time!
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
