Hi,
I have a Toshiba lappy with Vista HP. Last night my OH read on the Telegraph online of a critical update needed for IE. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/microsoft/7052032/Microsoft-releases-emergency-Internet-Explorer-patch.html
OH did a Windows Update and as the lappy tried to restart we now get this message:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware of software change might be the cause. To fix this problem.
1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose you language settings and click NEXT.
3. Click Repair Your Computer.
If you do not have the disc contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
File: \Boot\BCD
Status: 0xc000000f
Info: An error occurred whilst attempting to read boot configeration date.
So, I have put the restore disc in, but it gives me the warning it will wipe all data on the harddrive. I really don't want to lose everything, is there another way forward. Thanks in advance.

Thanks, but I have the discs. I just wanted to know if there was another way as I don't wish to lose my data.0 -
You obviously haven't read the information on the link properly - you appear to have a recovery disc which simply restores your computer to its factory settings, as opposed to a full Vista installation DVD.theonlywayisup wrote: »Thanks, but I have the discs. I think you're doing this wrong if you're seeing that message.
Configure the language, on the next screen do not click "Install Now" in the centre of the screen. Instead look for "Repair your computer" at the bottom left.
