benefits and holidays?

i'm on new deal at the moment and was wondering about the holiday rule thing?

i know when you're on jsa, you're allowed 2 weeks holiday a year as a job seeker. does this change when you move onto new deal? i.e. because of the courses?

the reason i ask is next month i'm meant to be going on a holiday to wales for a week with the parents. would i just sign off for that week, and then sign back on when i come back?

before anyone asks how i can afford it - it's my parents who have paid for it! not me!

Tell them before you go and fill in a form, they will likely ask for where you are staying and a contact phone number (never known anyone ring it and your/your parents mobile will suffice), then if your signing day is due when you are away you sign the day you come back (money would go out late most likely)

thanks for that! so the rules about being allowed 2 weeks holiday in a year don't change when you move onto new deal then?

You're not allowed a 'holiday' you're just permitted to be available for work elsewhere.

If you are on New Deal and have something in which to participate/attend I wouldn't have thought a family trip would constitute good cause for not doing so

are you on the fulltime new deal course? are you on the 13 week, 26 week or 52 week course? on the 13 week course you are allowed 5 days sick and no holidays. on the 26 week course you are allowed 10 holidays and 10 sick days. i dont know about the 52 week course as that is new. you should have told them about your holidays before you started or at least as soon as you started if it is a course that does not allow holidays like the 13 week one. on the 26 week course you have to fill in a holiday form and get your placement and tutor to sign it before handing it in. you must do this at least 2 weeks before the holiday.
    edit.
just to be clear you get the form i am talking about from the new deal provider and hand it in to the new deal provider. it is nothing to do with the jobcentre while you are on a full time new deal course. if you are not on a full time new deal course then you are likely to need to fill in a going away form that you get from the jobcentre and of course you would hand that one in to the jobcentre.

So i'd basically have to sign off then, and then sign back on?

not necessarily. if you are currently at the stage were you see an advisor at the jobcentre then have a word with them. they will probably arrange any appointments with them around your holiday. if your holiday overlaps with a signing day then you need to fill in a going away form from the jobcentre, you dont sign off. all you have to do is give them details of were you are going so that they can contact you(they never do) and then report back to the jobcentre on your first day back. if you are going abroad then you may have to sign off.
if you are on the fulltime 13 week new deal course then you are only allowed 5 days sick. if they are decent they may let you just class your holiday as sick days especially if they were already booked. of course if your holiday lasts longer than that then you have a problem. if that is the case have a chat with your tutor.
if you are on the 26 week course you should be ok even if you are going abroad. as i said before i dont know about the 52 week course if that is the one you are on.
