I have done the following :-
    • Changed current account
    • Changed savings account
    • Cancelled Sky movies (still under contract for the rest)
    • Changed telephone provider
    • Acknowledged my total debt (which has to be the biggest thing of all for me)
    • Changed household insurance provider
    • Changed car insurance provider
    • Moved as many credit card balances as I could to lower interest rates
    • Got rid of my hubby and his debts (yay!) not just because of MSE tho!
    • Changed gas provider
    • Changed electricity provider
    • Joined pigsback
    • Joined freefivers (and have received my first cheque!)

I am sure there are many more things I could think of but the above is a list that I produced in a couple of mins!

Hi again, thought of a couple more

I grow some veggies and herbs in back yard

Ihave worked out how much i need for day-to-day spending and take out just enough cash to cover it - when it's gone it's gone!!

Taken credit cards out of my purse so can't be tempted

    Have joined quidco

WILL join library, although haven't really got time to read, spend all my free time here!!!

I have also worked out approximately when each debt can be paid off and this is inspiring me to keep going

Have stopped buying magazines (I had abit of an addiction!)

Always buy things in the sales rather than full price and now ONLY when it's needed.

This thread is great, really inspirational.

Signed up with talktalk unlimited calls package including free broadband. Not as good as BT/Yahoo but infinitely cheaper- Saving=£24.99 PM

Negotiated payments with a debt collector £15 per week (I'm paid weekly) this is effectively interest free as they've bought the debt. If I pay early I get a rebate too! (Imperial Solutions (UK) very helpful and friendly). this is about half of what I was paying before.

Got my boss to pay me an allowance for using my mobile at work instead of using a firm's phone. He can set it against tax and I make a small profit!

Managed to negotiate an upgrade for my phone and a £15 per month discount!!!! I would have got only £10 with no upgrade .

My last payment for my bank-loan goes out Aug 6th that gives me an extra £115 per month to play with. I'm going to use this to bring my overdraft down.

Great idea for a thread as it makes me feel positive about changes I have made rather than fretting on what still needs to be done. Some things I have done which have saved me money and given a sense of control over spending:

Try not to buy books, certainly not the ones available free at the library (I put in a request and the new releases get to me fairly quickly).

    Same goes for magazines.

Changed phone provider which included a cheap mobile phone deal and as I hardly use the mobile it is usually free.

Instead of driving to train station now catch the bus so save at least $50 per fortnight as train station is 19 km away.

Pay my teenage kids an allowance which they have to budget to pay for clothes, fares, phone credit, hair cuts, make up, entertainment, gifts etc. This has worked a treat and saves a lot of stress as I was always being asked for money and having to say "no" which made me feel mean.

Never buy clothes unless they are on special or from an op shop.

Take lunch to work most days.

Have stopped eating meat. This decision evolved after starting to eat healthier from the beginning of this year. My 15 yr old daughter wanted to go vegetarian so we did it together about 3 months ago and have been eating so much better. Son still eats meat but we do save some money.

Don't shop for entertainment (this is easy as I hate crowded shopping centres).

Dye my own hair and wear it long so a cheap trim is sufficient.

Have a front laod washing machine which uses little water and half the amount of wash powder.

and thanks to all who contribute on MSE I get some great ideas and motivation to take care with my spending.

Thank you to MSE contributers who are a great help to keep me motivated to take care with my spending.

    what have we done.
Started spending less in supermarkets by trying value foods/buying less junk and ive stopped buying so many cleaning products.
Put dh on a payg phone (any1 who remebers my soa will remeber how big his monthly phone bill was around 150!! now he gets 25 a month which i still feel is too much!)
done a boot fair and shifted alot on ebay and still have some to go
started using washable nappies and will be with new baby when he gets here
got such a basic bank account i cannot use it online or shops i can only spend the cash i have on me!
set up bills like elec/gas/phone to dd you get a small saveing per year and set them to come out account start off month when i know i have money to cover them hence saving on any charges
