my laptop is just over 12 months old. the problem im having is that when its plugged in to charge it is very tepramental if it charges or not. i took it to a computer shop who have said that the bit the power cable plugs into has broke away from the motherboard and would cost £ 200 to fix. is there a cheaper way of fixing this problems??

My friend Ebay it for spare repairs
or teach your self soldering on to motherboard from the net, buy the parts from ebay and Do it Yourself and save £2000 -
There are cheaper places. Try a different repair place. My daughter was quoted £130 .
I have done a couple of ours myself. The part was about 3.50 each time but you do need to dismantle the laptop and do some soldering.0 -
This is a really common problem at the moment. I see on average about three a day and we charge £75.00 for the most complicated so £200 sounds a little on the "Rip Off" side.
Longer you leave it the more damage it will do. If it tears the board film the repair becomes less reliable.

One imagines that for £200 they were quoting for replacing the motherboard, probably paying the laptop manufacturer's ludicrous list price for the new one.Je suis Charlie.0 -
Hi Bazster, have to say I doubt it. All new Mobos we buy in direct from manufacturer are over £200. This company is charging pro rata. ie 5 hours work at £40.00 per hour.
Doesnt take 5 hours when you know how to do it. taked maximum 3.
£200 was simply a Rip Off and I hate rip off companies. They think they are gods. yeah rightComputers are like me, I get up in the morning and work...until I stop.0 -

Cripes. I know that laptop manufacturers charge ridiculous prices for what are generally fairly generic components, but £200 for an ordinary M/B is extracting the Michael!Je suis Charlie.0
