bt cancellation fee

My friend wants to transfer her landline from BT to Southern Electric who provides her with her gas/electricity
They are asking for a cancellation fee of £80.00.
Is this a normal fee, she has been with BT for a very long time.
Thanks for any info

Is she still tied into a contract with them? Or has she served the minimum terms? If she is just on a roll on with them, then I can't see why she would have to pay any cancellation fee providing she gives them the notice period stated on the original contract.

She can check which plan she is on at her online account. If there is a contract involved there will be a cancellation fee.

Whilst Scottish and Southern offer a one off credit off your energy bill if you move your phone service to them. It can still work out dearer if you move your phone service to them from BT.

12 month renewable most likely... if it has renewed you are charged £7.50 for each month left on contract.

How long have these BT self-renewable contracts been around??
First I heard was when I found out I was stuck with them cos mine had been renewed!
I recall getting a letter saying if you want to remain on this package you don't need to do a thing ! So I didn't
I've since mentioned it to friends/family & they had never heard of such a thing either
I can't wait til my time is up - it'll be bye bye BT cos of this
