Baby Naming Ceremony

Hi

I just wondered if anyone had organised one of these. My baby is due May 3rd and would like to organise one soon after she is born.

My mum is terminally ill and I would like to have this as soon as possible. Im just not sure where to start

Thanks

There were leaflets about naming ceremonies at my local register office. (saw them when we went to register before our wedding and thought what a good idea it was)

My understanding was that in a way it's similar to a civil wedding. You choose a venue and then book a registrar to come and do it and have a party/food/get together after the service

Do you think it would be weird if I booked it before the baby is born?

i had one 4 years ago, go to your town hall and speak to the man/woman who deals with the weddings etc and you book a date, they give you a sample 'service' and you change whatver you need and add any readings you require. Then if you want a party after book a venue and job, we had ours at a local hotel which had a karioke that night and it was a great day/evening !!! I know karioke sounds a bit tacky for a naming day, i thought that !! but we had a fantastic time x Good luck !!

given your circumstances, no definitely not. It's obviously very important for you to do it as soon as possible. Maybe you could check how far in advance you need to book? ie if it's only a few weeks then you could do it as soon as baby is born (but have plans in place so you know roughly what is happening) but if it's months then you'd need to do it sooner.

I did one for my DS 4 year's ago and it was lovely and informal , I just had my Auntie and cousin saying a few words and got ideas from a booklet I got from

I don't think it's too early at all considering your circumstances ,I have already started planning baby no 2 special day and I aint due till 2nd April
  • Daughter and son-in-law had one for their twins but did not have anyone official to conduct a ceremony. They researched the internet and found readings, etc etc., had mentors for the babies (similar to godparents) and put together a slideshow of photos with music. They invited family & friends and had a small buffet. It was a lovely day. Make some initial enquiries now and then after your baby is born it shouldn't take too long to put it all together. Good luck!
