Help Re Credit Report

Hi, first time post so sorry if this is the wrong place. i recently ordered my equifax credit report. on the report was an outstanding debt from northumbrian water. i received a letter from the water company 18 months ago, the letter was relating to a property i have never lived at. i contacted the water company who established it wasn't me and that was the end of the matter. This is showing on my file as an outstanding debt, i contacted the water company this week about this, but as i no longer have the letter with the address the debt is for they say they cant investigate. i was turned down for a loan in december, i have no outstanding debt other than 1 visa which i owe £900 on, i am assuming now i was turned down because of this being on my file. im wanting to apply for a mortgage but scared im going to get turned down. what can i do as the water company wont do anything unless i provide them with the address for that debt. please can someone advise what i can do. this mistake has cost me a visa and possibly a mortgage. thanks in advance

Hi Kelly, you can get the default data on your credit report removed it is not your debt, they are breaching the data protection act by publishing this if it contains falsehood's.
As long as the Visa is up to date you will be fine, this will have a positive impact on your credit rating.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want?
