Removing and repairing picture hooks when selling?

I am told that you should remove and fill in picture hook holes and presumably paint over when moving house or alternatively, leave the picture there! Can anyone confirm this?

We had a few EA's around to our house and they pretty much talked us out of doing all the things we planned to do to our house.
The main advise was get everything sparkling clean.
Having said that we ended up painting the whole inside of the house. Mainly because our house was being sold empty and I just felt that if I was a potential buyer I'd be MUCH more keen if it looked more like a new build (it is in fact 10 years old). It looked very 'tatty' to me when everything was cleared out.
We were painting our new house anyway and got one of those PaintPods - it was fabulous....we painted the whole of the old house (3 bedroomed detached) in 3 days. It cost £120 in paint. So well worth it in my opinion. And it does have the look of a brand new house....if you don't look too closely0 -
I would say no, you don't have to remove picture hooks / leave pictures. The new owners will probably have a different taste and want to redecorate/ hang their own pictures anyway (ps the vendor of my current house did not even bother to remove the remains of the mouldy pizza from the fitted wardrobe )
I suppose it depends a bit on the house - mine definitely needed a bit of tlc, but was worth it to me because of the amount of space for the price (proper loft conversion, outbuildings etc).
A thought though - you could always ask the buyer - that is probably what I would do.0 -
I really wouldn't bother, people with be viewing the property while the pictures are up so they won't need to be told that they will be taken down when you move out (unless they are complete morons, and I agree there are an awful lot of them out here) and the hooks will remain. Most home-buyers will be imagining their redecoration plans while they're viewing in any case.0
