How close can microwave combis be placed to cupboards etc?

I'm keen to buy a microwave combination oven as my little rented flat has no proper oven. I'd like to put it where the current microwave is at the moment, but that would mean it would be quite close to a cupboard on one side and a wall on the other. Is that OK? never used one of these before and I don't know how hot they get etc. V grateful for any thoughts!

I cannot see that there would be a problem with that.

There is very little heat coming off the one that we have.

We also have a refrigerator next to a built in gas oven, and no problem there.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

just bought one yesterday which is mircowave/convection oven/grill
in the book of instructions it says minimum of 3" between the oven and any adjacent wall. when i installed it on my one the back is domed so the three inches are there allready on the sides i got 2" one side and 2.5" the other but mind you i just stuck mine on top of the tall freezer between end cuboard and the wall. been using it all tested and ran up to see ok and all was well main thing is sure air can get in and out the vents.

    i bought this one http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4006842/Trail/searchtext%3EGREAT+DEALS+ON+MICROWAVES.htm

was orginal in cataloge in summer for £145 then they dropped it to £96.79 then final sale price with vat off £73.79 baragin!
but sale ends today i beleive as new cataloge saturday and vat back up.

one thing to bear in mind is these units are quite alot larger than a standard mircowave so check product dimensions first then measure just to be safe.
hope u find one thats ok.
  • Mine gives off quite a bit of heat when it is used on conventional cooking and the cupboard above gets quite hot. I have just looked in my instruction manual for you and for ours a Daewoo it says a minimum of 170mm of space should be left above the top of the microwave. It also says not to place in a cabinet but I don't think you were going to do that anyway.

I would check the specifications of the model you are looking at because I think they sometimes vent from different places depending on the make/model.

I've just bought one from Aldi (to replace my old Aldi one which has given up the ghost but is still under warranty so full refund coming), and the instructions say leave 10cm at the top and 6 cm at the back and sides. I don't have quite that much room around it but I reckon as long as there's a reasonable amount of room for air to circulate you don't need to worry - i'm sure they overstate things just to be cautious
