Switching process?
I'm in process of switching for the first time in years. On the 5th January I applied to switch to EDF from British Gas. Today I got a phone call from British Gas asking me to stay, but I explained reason I was leaving and I wanted to continue with the switch. They said I'll be switching on the 27th of January and asked for a meter read. I said I was due to put a read in on Monday and he said that would do.
I have heard nothing from EDF about switching on 27th, I was under impression they were the ones who would ask for a read then pass it on to British Gas. Does anyone know how close it is to the switch EDF contact you?
The info they sent me said the switch would take 6 weeks and this will be only 3.

When I switched from SP to EDF I received a letter about a week before the switch date, one for each supply. EDF ask for a meter reading at that point, and they should then send this to your old supplier for them to finalise the account. As long as you keep a record of the one you give to EDF then that should suffice.0

Hi JennyR68 - Whoa ! If your post is correct your Switch is going wrong before it's started
The whole system is dictated by a set of rules that the Utilities must adhere to, and the Meter reading and Date of the Switch are EDF's responsibility, they in turn by a progress of this information thro' several official agencies who must be informed, tell SP of the Switch date & Meter reading.
I do wonder if Scot. Power by their pre-switch intervention, are trying to set you up for an immediate switch back to them?
I would advise that you phone EDF immediately and inform them of the conversation with SP.
Also, you will get a phone call or letter from EDF asking for your meter readings and that time or very shortly after, they will advise you of the date the Switch will take place.
When this happens, for your own protection WRITE a common letter to EDF & SP confirming your meter readings and the Switch date - believe me, if the switch does indeed go wrong you will need this letter on file to protect your tail

I feel neglected and left out. The retention departments never telephone me. I guess that's what happens when you only spend £5 a month on gas and £10 on electricity.0

Thanks dogshome, I emailed BG to get them to confirm they weren't trying to take me back, they have replied today saying no there is no record of a verbal contract made. So that's o.k.
I also phoned EDF and they said I should have had a letter by now but yes the switch is midnight on the 27th.
So a 3 week switch instead of the six weeks anticipated, nice0 -
I switched from BG to EDF last November/December and I got letters about a week before the switch asking for my meter readings. I also contacted BG to let them know the readings. The whole process was very smooth and I had plenty of correspondence from EDF.
I had a meter reading last week and I have just received my first bills from EDF - the electricity bill is around £35 cheaper than it would be with BG and about £9 cheaper on the gas. I am glad I made the switch plus I've had loads of nectar points.0
