My son has decided he would like to be in New York for New Year and challenged me to find him the best deal. Help !!!!!!!!! Where do I start ? He calls me an internet freak, which I must admit I am addicted to this site.
I hope someone on here has more expertise than me and can give me some clues.
Thanks in advance.

Departing on 27/12 and returning on 03/01 i've just found a quote of £303.40 inc taxes for 1 adult. Flying with Virgin but says it's operated by another carrier which i think may be Continental. LGW to EWR. Gives you a base figure to start with.
OPODO**BERTIE**Did you Know: It costs more than £325,000 a day to run the lifeboat service? (with no government funding) Please donate to the RNLI0 -
TRAVELOCITY are offering a flight with Air Canada via Toronto (outbound) and Ottowa (inbound) on the same dates for £276 inc taxes.
BA are doing the same thing at £306.60 inc taxes (direct).**BERTIE**Did you Know: It costs more than £325,000 a day to run the lifeboat service? (with no government funding) Please donate to the RNLI0 -

There have been quite a few posts on here about Priceline and the merits for and against but never used them myself. Accommodation could be a problem as it's over the new year.

I've just booked for October with https://www.travellerspoint.com - they were much cheaper than any other site for the hotel I wanted.
Have you tried https://www.expedia.com https://www.Orbitz.com

https://www.hotelconnexions.com ?
I got the DK Eyewitness Travel Guide to New York from the library - packed with tips, I've used these for other cities too.
What a great time of year to be there. Hope he enjoys the trip.0 -
Just checked our Lonely Planet Guide to NY and found the following;
Big Apple Hostel (Tel:212-302-2603) offers private rooms for $80 [near times sq] BIGAPPLEHOSTEL
Hostelling International - New York (Tel:212-932-2300) from $25 but dorms with less rooms cost more and $3 surcharge for non-members [at top end of central park]
International Student Centre (Tel:212-787-7706) accommodates non-US citizens under 30 [side of central park]
Park View Hotel (Tel:212-369-3340) Private rooms go for $60 - $80 [top end of central park]
We stayed at Park Central New York, again near Times Sq and Central Park.
If you can get any of them the Big Apple Hostel looks the best i think as it's about 300m from the Sq.
