Car Insurance - nearly 18

Hey,
Unfortunately I cannot be put as a second driver on my parents car, so I'm looking to get some seperate car insurance which will cover me on their car.
I've looked around and found out that it is very expensive, and some of the cheaper options mean installing a GPS device in the car to ensure it's not being driven after 11pm, obviously wouldnt be suitable because of my parents using the car as well.
Has anyone got any tips on getting some cheaper insurance on a Ford Focus 1.8, and I only require it for 5 months.
Thanks

Why can't you be put on your parents insurance? Would be cheaper by far. But if you want a tip for a smaller quote, swap the engine for a 1.0, and if you're a bloke, have a sex change.0

Thats because your parents have an over 50's policy i'm betting.
Is their insurance up for renewal soon? if so they could look to go with a main stream insurer who could add you onto the policy, may cost a little more for them now but would be cheaper for you, maybe you could pay the difference.
If you only need the car at certains time over a 5 month period, you could look at temp cover, not ideal i know but maybe of use for the minute.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

If you could wait until you are 18 it can make a fair amount of difference, try getting quotes with your date of birth one year older to see if it's worth the wait0

Read Martins guide and all the other threads. Yes its expensive, no you will not be able to affordably insure a focus 1.8.0
