I wouldn't waste my money, the hot weather wont last long. Besides, when its nice outside i'd rather be out than in. Its warm here today, quite pleasant but looks like the rains coming :(
    I'm better off without you.

What are you going to use for money?

To answer your question specifically, no they are no good unless you get one the right size and have somewhere on your wall that you can knock through for the outlet hose.

We have researched and researched this for our daughter's bedroom and each time come to the same conclusion.

I've seen something called an air-cooler, it's basically a largish unit with a fan and a water tray. Theoretically the water should take the heat out of the air some models also have an ice cube tray. As it's just a fan hooked up nearby a water reservoir there's no need for an outlet hose.

They do them for about £50 in Argos, I've been meaning to get one but haven't for two reasons. Firstly, I'm not sure how well it'll work and secondly I'm not sure if I have enough space in my tiny flat.

I think they're going to be using a similar system to cool the Victoria line when tfl finally pull their finger out. If anybody does get an air-cooler please post and let us know if they're any good.

Don't waste your money. We have one at work and it is useless. It is quite a large one but of little use. It is just a fan that makes the room damp. You only get any benefit from it if you are directly in the airflow path.

My husband also had them at work and everyone there agree fans would have been better so they gave the coolers away and got pedestal fans instead.

Yes the 'conductive' coolers, or whatever they brand them that work using water/chilled water/ice are pretty useless.

Also its not the initial cost of the air conditioner, its the sheer cost of running the thing, it takes something like 7 times more power to cool something that it does to heat it up (well, air specifically).

    Get a few fans?
Honeywell are a good brand :)

Maybe take regular cold showers too.
    And drink some cold drinks...etc
