Standalone Uninsured Loss Recovery (ULR) / Legal Expenses Insurance (LEI)

Hello,

I am buying a car insurance policy. The insurance company is offering Legal Protection for an additional £25/annum.

Does anyone know where I can buy this protection as a standalone policy from another provider as I am sure one must be able to buy decent cover for less than £25/annum? The policy is to cover a standard, private individual. I have searched google.co.uk thoroughly but can't seem to find any companies offering such insurance as a standalone policy, which can't be right, surely?!

Hi ... I suggest you phone a Broker, there are Companies offering standalone cover, one such is DAS, and there are others.

Cost? Don't know, and the range of cover will differ, and depends on what you decide you want/need - thus the suggestion to contact a Broker.

If you search online you will find places that will give you motor legal expenses free of charge - it really is that profitable a product.

Legal expenses cover attached to other policies like home are different though. I did once see a stand alone policy that covered more or less what all the separate ones would but it was about £100 a year.

I saw DAS and http://www.composite-legal.com/1/welcome-to-composite-legal-expenses but don't seem to be able to see how you get an online quotation. These sites seem to be aimed at intermediaries. I just don't seem to be able to find the intermediaries' sites from which I can get figures etc. Am I being stupid and missing something or putting the wrong search terms into google UK?!

No, you're not being stupid, it's generally not sold as a retail product.
I have this one for £12 from payless and it covers motor(s) and home, so it's all in.

He gives it away free with his "club" becuase the regulatory requirements to actually sell it are quite expensive.

No connection, No kickback, but I'm happy with it and it saves me quite a bit on buying 4 seperate home and vehicle based policies (circa £100).
Some people would tell you not to bother and go "no win no fee".
Personally I'd rather have the option of insurance, but it's a possible route to consider.

It is surprising that there aren't insurers offering these products as standalone policies. I guess they have an interest to not promote competition!

lisyloo, do you know of anyone else who provides this cover, as this offer is currently only available for existing members? I'll go down the route of contacting the insurance company themselves if not, just wondered if you knew off hand.

Sorry I don't know.
I believe that insurance company will only sell via intermediaries.
Do you have a local insurance broker you can ask?
