Question Re: benefits and online work

Hi, I am claiming Incapacity, DLA and Housing Benefit due to severe disability. I am home a lot and was wondering if I could earn a little extra income by doing the Daily Click scheme without it affecting my benefits?

Thanks.

you could do these online surveys etc and still claim benefit, just don't declare it

    Fraud?

DLA isn't means tested; so won't be affected.

  • You would need to declare any income to the local authority if you are getting housing benefits
  • Should people be declaring the money they get through quidco then?
    Oh what's the bloody point...?

Isn't that just 'money off' a purchase? Or do you get a wage slip

Looks like I'm going to have to cancel my account with valuedopinions, then, because I started that but I never reached any threshold to cash out anything. I'm still actually a long way off from any threshold from that.

Edit: Sorry, just had a look at valuedopinions and they pay in amazon vouchers.

I will confess that I started writing reviews for dooyoo today and they also pay in amazon vouchers so I take it both sites would be ok to work on providing I take the voucher option??

Here's the thing ... you need to know how much you can earn before you start losing your benefits... but you lose those on a £1/£1 basis, so aren't any worse off ... however, what if you stumble across something within a year or so that actually pays you more than benefits?

It could be your way out.

So many people these days seem to be looking to do the minimum, but going legal/declaring and working your butt off trying stuff might just get you stumbling across something you're good at.

In late 2006 I was playing around online with an idea I had ... 6 months later and it was paying me a full-time income - and still is.

The skills you learn along the way could also come in useful for some future job, or starting your own business.

    Play the long game!
  • Thanks for that post, PasturesNew...that was actually quite inspirational. :)

However, I've thought about what I'm good at and it's mainly to do with computers but it's difficult finding a scheme on the net that actually works without it being a con.

How many have you tried/researched/looked into? I've probably investigated over 1000 so far - they pretty much fall into a small handful of ways of operating. Usually I can tell at a glance how something works, what one would need to do, if it's achievable for me .. and how I can use that technique to improve some of the things I've already picked.

Every week still I discover new bits/pieces that enable me to see a new way of doing things.

I expect it to be never-ending to be honest. All the time I maintain what I am doing already that works - and research/discover/investigate new things I find. Only last October I found something that brings me in another 10-12% above what I had been earning ... if I can keep increasing my income bit by bit, then it keeps me busy and gives me an income.

I probably now spend £1000-2000/year on things I want, domain names, hosting, etc. All things I've found along the way that help me to earn a full-time income. I started with £0 and just reinvested my first few months' money - and put a lot of work in.

I'm not rolling in it .... but I keep at it because one day I might suddenly stumble across "the big one" - and in the meantime I'm keeping all my skills updated, my brain active and my bills paid.

Many things aren't cons - people just don't understand what they are, so they label them. I recognise what's what and move on from those, having researched what they do/how they're working I can often use a tip/trick from what they do to enhance something else in my portfolio of income streams. e.g. eBay pay me £20-30/month and I do nothing .... it cost me nothing except 2 hours of time 2 years ago to look into it and 2 hours of time since fiddling around to try things out.

Another one I stumbled across, I wrote a short article over 2 years ago and forgot it - then suddenly realised that it was making me some money .... it took me half an hour to write and to date has earnt me £200. As soon as I realised, I sat down and wrote 30 more...
