If you are single mum & receive income support, then get a lump sum from your divorce settlement which is over £16000 , will you lose income support immediately?
Can you pay for getting child through university with some of the lump sum ,and reduce the amount to below the threshold ? Is this accepted by DWP ?

  • I would have thought so, even if you give your child some £ for university that will be seen as self deprivation of capital which is a no-no.

Why do you expect the taxpayer to fund IS when the claimant has more than enough money to maintain themselves?
Be happy, it's the greatest wealth :)

Problem with that, as I see it, is student finance provides an income for university students and so your IS would in fact be used to keep a student in relative comfort rather than 'normal' living costs iyswim?
