warranty - courtesy car?

I'm after some advice - our car has been at the garage since tuesday waiting to be fixed. The bit that's wrong with it is being fixed under warranty. Should we have been entitled to a courtesy car, and if so is it up to us to ask or the garage to offer?

My OH took the car in and I told hi.m to ask but he was put off when MIL told him we wern't entitled - I've only just found this out.

I've been looking for the paper work we got with the car but I can't find it any where but have been told by a few girls at work that they had a courtesy car .

Nobody is " entitled " to a courtesy car, some dealers provide them, some do not.

Garages have a limited number of courtesy cars, I had to book a month in advance to "guarantee" one when my car was serviced. Also there was a £1,000 damage excess on the car which could be waived for £10 a day. Worth asking them though, may have a spare over the weekend.
  • We will provide a loan car if the customer asks us and if we have a car in stock that is taxed.

It's always worth asking. Our local garage is really good like that, when my car broke down recently, they lent me one of the cars they had in that was taxed for two days whilst mine was repaired. The cars may not be new, they are usually old part exchange cars that they have taken in that they dont retail (the one I had was a Y reg Focus with about 140k on the clock), but it got me to work and back - which being self employed I really appreciate.

If they don't and you need a car, you could always hire a cheapie car for a couple of days...

Clue is in the name - courtesy :)

I would expect a car if it was in for a long time though :)

What car is it? Some Manufacturers such as BMW/MINI will provide a hire car through Enterprise/Avis/Hertz etc but you often need to call up customer services and badger them.
