One is almost suicidal

If life wasn't bad enough already (redundant, no money etc) some ***** came into my house at 0400 last week rifled through some bags and struck lucky with wallets, and spare car keys - pure fluke.

They stole my car and now I am stranded. Car worth £8-9k. Obviously house policy null and void as french window not locked, but car policy says only not void if keys in/on the car. Insurance hinting at not accepting claim? Advice please.

Devastated.

PS dont insure with anyone who supports Plymouth. Their claims dept act like the SS.

    Ginsters?

PS: why is the household insurane invalid? Many insurers only require doors to be locked when the house is unoccupied. Some say while you are sleeping as well though.

I would be surprised if the car insurers will not pay out unless they specifically state the house the keys are stolen from must be looked and I have not seen a policy with this wording yet. The only other way they could throw out the claim is if your actions are deemed to be reckless.

Does your policy have a door and window lock discount on it or do you live in a city?

    Thanks guys,

No the car policy says only wont pay out if the keys are in or on the car, which they weren't.

At first I genuinely thought I'd got myself totally confused somehow left my spare keys in the ignition and locked the car with the master set because I couldn't figure out what had happened. But that was tosh. The spare set were in a bag that we proved later was ransacked but because a house door was not locked (house insurance stipulation when you go to bed apparently) they got access and nicked the car.

Totally devastated. I can't get access to a job now with no car nor no payout so I need one or the other. Unfortunately due to a high level of stress and a friend staying they didn't lock a door and I being so tired forgot to check it and thats how they got in through French windows.

Aviva really awful almost accusing me of making it up. They never ring back and treat me like dirt. Yeah sure I'm gonna get up in the middle of the night drive my car to some remote place, torch it and pretend someone broke in. Then lose my wallet etc and go through all this aggro.

Doesnt sound too much of a stretch to me. Can see why they are suspicous. Expect them to investigate before settling.
