I am lucky to have been awarded a repayment from the tax office for the first time in my life. Weyhey! Except it doesn't look like they are very keen to pay up.
I am aware that even if their web site says the payment has been "sent to you" that means that it hasn't and they're doing security checks. So, how many weeks/months has it taken you to actually get the money in your hands? Thanks.

FWIW - I submitted my first SA on 11th jan - was due a repayment - landed in account on 15th Jan.

You need to keep calling them up - very often they will hold on to tax refunds until the taxpayer asks for the money to be repaid.0

The revenue website indicates that repayments are automatic "within 10 days", well last year I finaly gave up trying to get my £190, 2008/9 added a further £150, so now they owe me £340 + . Contacted via the website, reply says rebate will be handled by my tax office and gave an costly 0845 number (why-o-why do the government continue with this scam), rang them to hear message that they are overwhelmed with reclaims, and it will be several weeks before correspondence can be dealt with.It seems that Gordon is dealing with his cash flow problems by delaying payments due to us.
If a private company behaved like this they would end up in court, are HMRC above the law?:mad:0 -

I filed online in August and was immediately notifed "Repayment issued" on the website; ticked the box for rebates to be paid directly to bank; rang them in November and website changed to payment "Sent To: You" (which really means submitted for security checks apparently)
Have been ringing them every week since, but nothing. We're talking hundreds of pounds. Methinks somebody's taken the money.
EDIT. My weekly call went like this:- no my address hasn't changed; I've been here for 15 years (that's a new one!); yes sir, the payment was made a couple of days ago but failed; are you sure you haven't changed your address? No. Ok, we'll send a cheque instead to you address.
And the wait goes on...If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0 -
Hi,
I have been waiting since before christmas when my accountant submitted my return, to get back several thousand pounds.
Is it worth me asking my accountant to chase it or should i go direct??0 -

If your accountant didn't request repayment then it will be sitting as ancredit on your account.
you might as well call HMRC yourself and see what the situation is. At worse you can request repayment and it should receive repayment soon (subject to security checks) , if your accountant did request repayment then you check on the status of it.He's not an accountant - he's a charlatan0 -

Thanks for that.
I spoke to my accountant today and apparently that had "accidentally forgotten" to process my claim.
Still, all sorted now and thanks again. :beer:0 -
31 Jan seems to have been a trigger date to send repayments. (I asked for a repayment in August) The electronic repayment failed (account number was wrong) but I got a cheque yesterday. Thats almost 6 months. If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0
