Your bos has no choice but to agree AFAIK!

But under the NEW system this doesn't happen! Suely that's a good step forward?
Yes your boss/work must in principle agree but they can try to argue your essential & cannot do without you.

Yes, it is a good step forward.

The reason I'm going on about the system & how it works (eg. going on Jury Service) is if you didn't know a particular detail & consequences, it could cause you serious problems.

So a simple thing like going on Jury Service while on JSA, could in the past have caused you serious problems.

Yes, it is good that it has changed & now people on JSA should be able to do Jury Service without worrying. :T :j

I was working when I got called up for jury sevice but didn't get any wages for that period. My boss looked at it as "If you aren't here you don't get paid" To make any money I went into work if the courts didn't need us for a day or so (which happened) or if court finished early.
That's probably illegal & you should have been paid.

Although that's probably little comfort as if you told your boss who know's what consequenes would be:
-the sack in the future (you're a troublemaker), problems at work etc.

It's not easy being on JSA & it's not always easy in the workplace.

Are not the court supposed to give you Loss of Earnings?

Of sorts yes. I was paid by the court from the minute I left my house to the minute I got back to it at the end of the day. Thats ok if you get a full day in but most days I left my house at 9.15am to be in court for 10.00am then some days court would end at maybe 2pm so I got home at 2.30pm (ish) so I wasn't getting a full days wage. I was worse off than being at work. Like I said, to make my money up I went into work if the court took a day off or if I had time to get home and into work in the afternoon.

peter999 I don't think its illegal and I totally understand why my boss felt that way. Why should someone be paid if they aren't there? Unless of course they are ill. I do think though that when doing Jury service the courts should pay you exactly what you would have earnt had you been at work.
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:
