Certificate of Existence

I am in receipt of a small pension form a company in South Africa called Liberty Life. Recently I have received a request from them to complete a Certificate of Existence and return it. The Certificate has to be signed by a Commissioner of Oaths/Police Officer/ Postmaster? etc. My local solicitor wants to charge £80 and so I’m trying to find a cheaper alternative, any ideas anyone?

Can you LIST acceptable persons to sign please - we can't suggest who might be cheap/free if we don't know who's acceptable.
Have you phoned your local nick to see if one of them would sign? (subject to proof of ID no doubt)Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

What a rubbish system! Unfortunately, it's common. They want you to prove that you're still alive and that they are not paying your pension to a fraudster. It's a rubbish system as any fraudster would just fraudulently complete the Certificate
I suggest you return the form with a recent utility bill and confirm that you are the person entitled to the pension. See what they say after that.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
I Googled this for you because I'm likley to face the same one day (I have retirement funds in SA). Try the Post Office:

Your bank or GP may do this for free.0

My husband needs one of these as well. According to this site there does seem to be a standardised form. http://www.ruleworks.co.uk/cgi-bin/TUaz.exe?Guide=Pensions&XL=C&t=Pensions%20Knowledgebase%20and%20Glossary
But it doesn't tell you where to get one from. Anybody know?0 -

There is no standardised form. You need to supply what the pension scheme wants (or challenge this).Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -

Well it makes the fraudster a conscious one, rather than someone who has 'inadvertently forgotten' to advise of the death.
What would you suggest as a better system?0 -
