Washing machine hose, Plumbers help please!

Hi everyone,

The hose from the mains to my washing machine blew off last night soaking the kitchen floor. The plastci on the screw bit of the hose cracked and thats why it came off, Now is there anyway to join the hose to the mains or do I need a new hose altogther, the problem is that it's and intergrated dishwasher and there is quiet a bit of work to replace the hose an the washing machine end, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I'm assuming you are referring to the hose used to fill the machine. The colour of the hose is either red or blue, at the washing machine end is a right angled connector, the other end is a straight connector. If this is the case then I suspect you will need to buy a new hose. Given the difficulty you have in replacing the failed hose, I would replace both.

You could try buying a new hose, removing the connector that has broken and fitting this to the original hose. You will need a small jubilee clip to fix the hose to the new connector.

    p4ul,

Do you think a jubilee clip connection would stand the pressure ok?

And thanks for the offer bernlyn, I have a spare as I had to get longer ones originally

No problem, just be careful not to tighten it too much as it might break the plastic connector. The difficulty will be removing the good plastic connector from the spare pipe. I am assuming there is some form of metal crimp used for this connection which will have to be removed without damaging the connector. On the broken pipe it is much easier as you can simply cut through the pipe an inch or so from the connector.

Another option, if replacing the whole hose is a problem, is to cut the old pipe near the broken connector, then cut the good pipe 6-12" from the connector and joining the 2 pipes using a short length of suitably sized copper pipe and securing with 2 jubilee clips.

    Hope this helps!

    No.

... Yes. They're a dedicated and cheap bit of kit designed to take all the pressure that builds up as the machine takes / stops taking water. Bit unusual for one to go - but regret you have to replace the entity. Trying to 'DIY one' will leave you never daring to leave the machine alone. As previous post - it's not worth it.

No need get so emotional plump1. Yes, it may be a bodge, not something I would normally advocate, but the original post was asking for a way of avoiding having to replace the entire hose becouse of problems gaining access to the rear of the washing machine. Simply saying replace the hose is not really being particularly helpfull, as the OP already new this. Not knowing the actual situation onsite make it difficult to ascertain the value of producing a work around.

BTW, I've never been on a 5 day plumbing course, but I consider myself a better plumber than some that consider themselves fully trained plumbers!!!

Sensible. That's the problem with a wholly integrated kitchen. Looks excellent - but a real pain when one or more of the appliances develop anti-social tendencies? Particularly the 'wet' ones!

Yeah it didn't turn out to be too hard to get the washing machine out, I thought the dishwasher would have to come out as well to get the pipe round the back but luckily it didn't.

I posted this problem on a plumbing forum and got some guy on it saying it served me right for having an intergrated washing machine, some manners huh?
