It is an excessive fine for simply not swiping your card.

However it's dishonest to claim that is what it's for.

Much like the claim that a man was being fined £500 for leaving his bin out- he wasnt't.

go to the court which issued the fine. take full proof of your finances. Make sure you buy a ticket for the journey. If this is a fine issued in a criminal court, not paying it could lead to worse than a bailiffs visit

Why didn't you actually pay the fare for your journey?

I jumped on a bendy bus with an oyster card i had borrowed off a friend, but this time I decided not to swipe it, I was in a stress and in a rush to get home,

You decided not to swipe it, so you decided to use the transport without making payment. Yes the fine is becoming well out of proportion to the original fare but that is also your fault as according to your original post
then a received a court summons which I was staggered by and outright refused to attend

What did you imagine would happen here? Honestly? Did you think they would just say 'never mind, you continue to defraud TFL and we will just go away?'

I begrudge my fares, I'm sure a lot of us do especially on short hop journeys but it isn't up to us to decide on a whim not to pay. I don't like my phone bill either, maybe I should just not bother paying that either then and hope they will just go away.

Seriously now, get legal advice, don't faff around on forums it has gone beyond that. proper advice will cost you, but they could save you further unpleasantness in the long run.

You didn't swipe your card because you were under stress and in a hurry to get home? Have you ever travelled between 5pm and 6.30pm on a weekday when most of London is stressed and in a hurry to get home?

You need to man up quickly if you want to survive in London sunshine.

Not paying your fare is stealing. Stealing is a criminal act. Criminals deserve to be punished.

    Serves you right Thief.

the op stated it was at 6 am not pm. he had been to a party so had probalbly had a great amount of alcohol and what with being a student a lot of drugs as well, I can see why he was "stressed" and didn't swipe, he needed to get home quick as he was statring to get paranoid !:rotfl:

Why did you 'outright refuse to attend' court?
Either way, the advice given in Tehone's post is sound - you may find a sympathetic ear at the CAB, but I wouldn't tell them the story the way you've have written it here as it's unlikely to win any brownie points. Admit that you did wrong (several times) and ask for help - the debt collection company will just want their money so if you can show willingness to pay and a realistic payment plan (not 10p a week - as much as you can afford of the CCJ) then you'll stand a much better chance of leniency.
