Why does my mouse stop and the pc 'bing bongs'?

This must be a pc thing as it happens with different mice....both wired and wireless.
Cursor will stop like it freezes and pc makes a bing bong sound (sorry don't really know how else to describe it
but it's not a single warning beep). It then bing bongs again and the curser is free to move again.
Windows 7 if it makes a difference.
I have no idea what the problem is, can anyone help please?

sounds like the USB connection to it dropping out and re-establishing....
dodgy socket? can you try a different one?0 -
Tried that but it made no difference. Main usb on pc unit, hub and also socket in keyboard. All connections the same.0

Yep, this sound usually signifies that something has been plugged in or unplugged from a USB socket.
As you've tried two mice, then this suggests that they are both not at fault. Perhaps a dodgy USB socket on your PC. Try plugging the mouse into a different USB socket.0 -
Thanks Dave but that was suggested above and I replied saying I'd tried that, so I think we cross posted.
Is it possible that the usb driver isn't right? The pc came with Vista and I put Windows 7 on it. Would that have anything to do with it? Seems strange that all usb sockets that were tried have the same result.0 -

How many usb on rear panel did you try - how many are there on rear panel? Do you mean the front usb when you say "main usb on pc"? Maybe hub USB has burned out.
Any exclamation marks against usb controllers in device manager?0 -

The pc has 4 usb sockets on the back and 2 on the front.
Device Manager shows usb controllers to be ok but it does have a yellow exclamation mark beside 'Multimedia Controller'. I don't know what that is, or if it's linked? It says the drivers for this device are not installed.0 -

Thought I'd update. Tried a third mouse in desperation and all has been ok. Can only assume both previous mice had problems somehow. Thanks for all the help.0

Last mouse I had that did that had a loose wire inside (where the cable attached to the PCB) two mins to dismantle/resolder/put back together, and its working fine.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0
