Payplan and CCCS do free DMPS - but they do have to charge for an IVA set up - but it will be much much less than someone like Debt Free Direct.

And Payplan and CCCS give excellent advice that is based on your needs - not a company profit.

I know its hard but keep the faith. As with many who have posted im in debt too and most of which was caused by my ex husband but still im cleaning up the mess.

Belive in yourself, its tough but you have to try and remember that there are people who love you and that are gonna be there for you no matter what.

Its hard not to get upset and not think about it but you can fight back like so many other people including myself have done. Its hard to see the light but remember there are always people that can help. It could be a loved one or a total stranger.

So I will give you HUGE forum hugs XXXXXXXXX

Hi and glad you are coping so far

An alternative To CCCS and Payplan are CAP http://www.capuk.org/

They are free and do all the same sort of things but they will visit you at home (if they have a center in your area) and the centers ahve support workers who you can talk to about anything, not just debt.

Please think about the other services mentioned before signing with debt free direct, it can pay to shop around (pity it does pay to shop - i'd be rich!)

so many people on these sites have had good experiences with CCCS and payplan - but i have not heard of anyone talk of debt free direct. It would be awfull to jump out of the frying pan into the fire :)

Please Post your SOA. Also do you have any depedants or do you live alone?

Also think about major changes? Can you move somewhere cheaper? Can you move in with your folks for a while until you get sorted etc... Do you really need your car?

It is just money and try not to let it get you down or effect your health.

    Hi Talula

I hope you have been able to move on from feeling suicidal. Dont forget the Samaritans, who have, for non debt related problems, been there for me a few times I can tell you. They will listen when sometimes you cant bear to speak of how bad things are with anyone else. I have been to the edge, gone out to do it on several occassions but the one thing which has so far stopped me is the effect it would have on people who care about me. I have lost two members of my family to suicide, so know how it affects people left behind, I just couldnt do that to anyone else (unless I am very ill mentally in which case I need to get to hospital). If one of my friends killed themselves because of money worries a big part of me would die also... I would feel I had failed them etc etc. I know this is a terrible subject and it is easy for others to say chin up, but really, if you or anyone else feels suicidal, you are ILL, not just a bit upset, so like any other illness get to A&E or your GP and tell them. Once you get past the crisis try to use visualisation to help to fight the really bad feelings, I for one would not now give any of those rats who helped me to get here have the satisfaction of my death.... they can wait until my time is up naturally.

Basically, we are all trying to deal with an incredibly stressful period in our lives and sometimes we need more help, which might be financial advice, counselling, or even just a good old fashioned blubbing session. Do what ever helps you, not what others suggest you need to be doing at least not all the time. I am not excusing what I did in getting into this mess, but regardless of how I got here, I need to get somewhere else, so there isnt a lot of point worrying about where from... its where to which will get my interest now.

In the spirit of Frasier Crane: Wishing you and everyone else good mental health

YOU CANNOT BE HUNG FOR DEBT, this was my mums favorite saying, mind you she has never been in it.

We on the other hand are up to our neck and there is no shame in it. When we took out the loan and cards we were in a position to pay them, now we are not. We have contacted the CCCS they are amazing, we now pay the companies £1 per month for the next 5 months, but as I am having a baby chances are my partner will go bankrupt at the end of it. He could not care less, he has not felt so free for years. We now live within our means and better because of this site with its cheap shopping codes and freebies :D

    http://www.cccs.co.uk/

I really would give them a call, everyone thre is a volunter who has been in your situation.

Our way of thinking is that even if he did not go bankrupt we have been priced out of the property market when we were forced to seel our house due to thugs on the estate just before house prices shot up. Its the only thing we will ever get into debt again for and by the time house prices crash his bankruptcy will be over and my credit is fine anyway.

Also be aware that there is a massive difference between a baliff and a debt collector, a baliff, sent by a court can take your stuff, for council tax and important stuff, not loans and cards. A debt collector is a muppet in a cheap suit, they can only knock and ask politley for money, if they harrass you call trading standards who will sort them out.

Please call CCCS they will make you feel much better.

    Take care x;)

Many hugs and very best wishes. The people on this site are truly amazing and things just seem much better when you have the support of the 'gang'. Keep strong, keep posting and remember its us ALL against "them" (and i know who my money is on!!!) Annie XX

  • I agree with the above. DFD tried to include £7,000 of their fees in my IVA proposal. Er hellooooooooooooooo I'm already in debt, so why should I want another £7,000 on top of what I owe

I think some of these companies are just out to cash in on people's misfortunes and debt problems. The word vulture comes to mind!

Please, please, please don't go with anybody else than CCCS, payplan or the CAB. I was passed from pillar to post after signing up with a company similar to Debt Free Direct who charged me £350 admin costs and £350 to set up an IVA. I had £150 disposable income but that wasn't enough for an IVA apparently. (I've been told you have to have a couple of hundred available every month which you don't have with just £50) That company then passed me onto someone else who charged me £450 admin fees and tried to set up an IVA at a cost of £250. Again the IVA couldn't go through cos not enough money left at the end of the bills..blah blah blah. We then got passed to another company who charged us £350 to set up a DMP which we payed £152 into every month. I only realised 2 months ago they were charging us £29 every month for the privlege, and also sending payments late and for wrong amounts.
I now have default notices with every creditor, have had visits from baliffs, a CCJ and a charging order on my house.
Please talk to the CAB, CCCS or Payplan ASAP!!!!!
They will sort you out with a DMP for free!!!!
And don't worry we are all here to help aswell.
And by the way, I am now with the CAB and could have payed of three of my creditors with the fees I have had to pay out!!!
