I have a loan of 20k with HSBC which is spread over 7 years and costs me £260 a month. I also have a credit card with them and I owe that £4500. I am constantly into my overdraft with HSBC whose charges are horrendous. I also have rent and bills to pay as well as a car to run. HSBC wouldn't help me and I tried to get an account with Lloyds as their charges are smaller, but they could only offer me a cash account because I have a bad credit rating.
I asked CCCS for help but they could only budget an extra £30 a month for me. I am seriously considering an IVA but I am worried about the repurcussions of this. I just can't see a way out and I feeling sucidal. I don't want to burden my family with this as they have helped me out before. I know this sounds appallingly self-pitying and there are people with much bigger debt problems than me but I am 30 years old and can't see a future without debt. Please help.

Hi Taula,
Welcome to MSE.
I am sure there is a way forward financially for you.
Would it be possible to post a statement of affairs so people can see your overall situation and then give you the best advice ?
I know its not much consolation but if you have food on the table and a roof over your head you are in many ways in a much better position than many.
Try to keep as positive as you can and keep posting.
You can turn your situation around.
I wish you well.0 -

Im so sorry that you are feeling so low. Darling, you are in the right place. Weve all been where you are at some point or another, and it stinks so sending a hug
If you are feeling suicidal the only thing I can suggest to you is to see your doctor and ask for some help to keep your mood up.
Secondly, and I dont want this to sound mean or horrible in any way, but I believe that CCCS and thier budgets are a little overgenerous. For example if they can find you only £30 there may be options for us to find more. PLus as far as I cn tell CCCS wont give you any top tips on various different providers etc.
Pop up your SOA here and lets see if we can find anything else for you
Lots of love
Lynz

Hi
first thing to understand is that YOUR LIFE is worth much more than any debt you have. You say you don't want to burden your family with this but think of the burden you'll be putting on them if you do top yourself! MUCH WORSE!
Speak to the cccs again, i am on a DMP with them and only have £25 a month split between 4 creditors so it can be done and is a lot less stress when someone is acting on your behalf.
Keep your chin up, remember its only money, I know this is hard to do as i've had to do it myself but thetre are much more important things in life
I wish you well

Welcome Talula.
I am sorry to hear that you are feeling like that. I completely understand and felt the same when I was in debt, but at the end of the day it it only money. Sure it is a stress & not very nice being in debt, but not worth risking your life over!!
Could you post a SOA (statement of affairs)? Perhaps you will be able to save some money without realising it, and we might be able to give you some advice. At least you only have two creditors - it gets more complicated the more you have (I had about 11 I think!!).
Firstly you need to prepare a budget & try and stop going over your overdraft, you need to know EXACTLY what comes in and EXACTLY what goes out (and which date). It does take a while to learn how to budget, so dont be too hard on yourself, but its a fab feeling when you dont spend more than you earn the first month and even better when you actually have money left over, and being able to save - well, it wont be long before you'll have a stash of money behind you
!!
I am sorry that Lloyds will only give you a cash card - they did the same with me, and I had to manage on that for a few years - it was hard, but you soon get used to it, and now they have given me a debit card I hardly use it and tend to stick to paying with cash now anyway!! Its amazing how quick you get into a habit!!
Please post your SOA and we'll do our best to help!
a) What are the APR's on your debts?
b) Is there an early repayment penalty if you overpay on your loan or repay it early?
c) Do you have Payment Protection on either? Most people advise to cancel this, but it depends on your situation (if you have dependents or anything).
Dont despair. 30 is still young!! And just think how wise you'll be once you have got yourself sorted.

Talula, it's only money babe! It's not worth you damaging your health. I owed over £34,000 9 months ago and since coming on this pucker site I've knocked over £6,000 off that!
I too couldn't see any light at the end of the tunnel but if I close my eyes and concerntrate I can see a small light dot and every day it gets bigger and it will for you as well!
Post your SOA (see this thread for a guide) and I promise you will be feeling better about things tonight! If not I'll email you a picture of me in my birthday suit! That will make you smile for sure!

Talula,
my advice is to call CCCS, payplan or the CAB right away, get some info, and prepare for your appointment with them. It is not worth the stress to keep struggling on when you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel.
An IVA means you may not get more credit for some time, but you *should* get enough money to live on. It may also make it tricky to get a mortgage for some time - but not impossible. Loads of people on this board have done IVAs and the majority say it made them feel more free, and that things were under control.
What other concens do you have? Maybe we can help allay your fears with some information.Debt free 4th April 2007.

Big Hugs to you, Talula.
I am also 30 and deep in debt so you resonate with me.
I also really wanted to post just to say *please* ring the Samaritans. I know they don't offer financial advice (or indeed any advice) but you're already getting that. If you're feeling suicidal you urgently need trained sympathetic help and the Samaritans are the people. Don't feel "oh my problems aren't worthwhile" or whatever - you *are* important and you do deserve help. That's what they're there for. They're on 08457 909090 and I believe they will ring you back if you ask them to (save your phone bill). Or if you can't bring yourself to pick up the phone (I hate the phone) email them: jo@samaritans.org
No amount of money is worth a life - your life - and there are people out there who want to help (me included!).
Sending you positive vibes,
HFMEverything turns out all right in the end. If it's not all right, it's not the end.
