Cattery advice

Hi all

We are going away for a week in June and I'm starting to think about care for our cat. The last few times we've been away we've had a house/catsitter and the cat has used the couches as her toilet every night:eek: I do feel sorry for her, she is 11yrs old this year and is a sensitive little thing and obviously misses us when we are away, but I don't think our couches can take much more.

So we want to put her in a cattery, we've never done this before so would welcome some advice as to what features/facilities we should expect/look for, how much we can expect to pay and even better - recomendations for catteries in the Merseyside area would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Helen

If she is sensitive then I would not think she would like being in a cattery at all.
I would go with a different cat sitter, cover all sofas with cheap fleece throws, start using Feliway plug ins and spray, get some specific Flower Essences and give them for a few weeks before the holiday, and leave some well worn clothes with your scent on for her to sleep on.
    Worked for mine!

you can go to a cattery before hand an have a look at the pens and such. I've put my cat in a cattery when she was 16 yrs, blind and on medication. The cattery people, if they are half decent, shouldn't have any problems in taking in you cat as she is.

i also made sure to take her cushions and a sweater she liked to sleep on.
Cats don't have owners - they have staff!! :D:p

I always think cats are better staying at home when their owners are on holiday as the trauma of being away from their owner is hard enough without having to stay somewhere foreign too, although I do understand where you're coming from. Can you not get those plastic paint sheets and cover all the furniture? Also putting lemon oil (as in aromatherapy oil) on areas where she usually soils helps as cats don't like the strong citric smell. Or you could make a room for her? As in designate one room for her to stay in for the duration of the holiday? Just ensure that it's kept warm and she has all her usual creature comforts.
Never argue with an idiot; they'll bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.
