Any plumber type people out there?

My toilet has developed a fault in that there is water almost continually dribbling into it from the top ( where the flush water comes from) Any ideas what the problem is and roughly how much it would be to fix?
Thanks.
Thanks.

If you mean that it's dribbling into the toilet pan from the cistern and it's definately not coming over the overflow pipe, then it may be the same problem I've had. I replaced the flush valve (flapper). It cost me £6 and was very easy to do (well on my loo it was).

It's dribbling into the pan from the cistern, yes. I'm not sure about the overflow pipe?0

Here's what is might look like

It might be the overflow, so the ballcock would need adjustingMy advice is worth exactly what you're paying for it!

the seal on the flush valve may need cleaning or replacing0

PennyPinchingMiser, I hope you don't mind me asking but I've been trying to work out the names of toilet components (as you do!), on that diagram the flush valve looks to be a different part (for want of better wording) from the flapper. I thought they were the same thing...... I'm slowly learning!!
What does the flush valve do, if that makes sense?
Edit to add...... I've looked properly now and I don't think it does anything except for something to attach the flapper to, please correct me if I'm wrong!!! :0)0 -
I think the flush valve stops the cistern filling down the fill pipe whilst it's flushing.chrissyfp1 wrote: »PennyPinchingMiser, I hope you don't mind me asking but I've been trying to work out the names of toilet components (as you do!), on that diagram the flush valve looks to be a different part (for want of better wording) from the flapper. Well, it works because the flapper is bouyant, but the weight of water in the cistern hold the flapper shut. You pull the chain to break the 'seal', and the flapper floats out of the way to let the water out.chrissyfp1 wrote: »Crossed posts..... and I still got it wrong, lol.

The water is going out through a big pipe, but fills through a little pipe, so eventually the cistern should empty, and the flapper sits back on the seal, and the weaight of water keeps it closed
or something like that
